Bea Binene gets flowers from Xian Lim after ‘offensive’ joke

Chuck Smith - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – All’s well that ends well for Kapuso star Bea Binene and Kapamilya actor Xian Lim.

This is after Xian received flak for a joke he made in a recent episode of ABS-CBN’s nightly gag show “Banana Nite.”

In the said episode, Xian repeatedly referred to Kim Chiu impersonator Charmae Viking, who surprised the actor on stage during a song number, as “Bea Binene.” Netizens immediately criticized the actor for the joke, some saying his comment was “insensitive” and “offensive.”

Xian apologized on his Twitter account a day after the episode aired.

“I deeply apologize if I caused negative feelings while singing onstage during the Chinese New Years Eve countdown. It was not my intention, and I take full responsibility for my actions,” he said in a tweet.

In an Instagram post on Monday, February 10, Bea revealed Xian sent her flowers to apologize for his actors.

“I was surprised when I saw this when I got home. Thankyou, @xianlimm! You don't need to give me these, but still, you did. God bless you!” the young GMA-7 artist said.

In an earlier post on her Twitter account, Bea said she did not take Xian's joke personally.

Meanwhile, in a press conference held recently, Edgar Mortiz, the director of the gag show “Banana Nite,” apologized for the incident, saying Xian was not briefed about Charmae’s appearance on stage during his performance.

“Ang totoo n’yan, may kasalanan din kami, hindi kasalanan ni Xian yung nangyari kasi biglaan din talaga yung show na yun,” he said. “Ako na naka-isip na i-good time si Xian. Actually, hindi niya alam na darating yun. Ang problema lang, hindi siya na-brief na lalapitan siya ng look-alike ni Kim.”
