Sam Milby: More challenging roles, new album in 2014

Chuck Smith - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – After having an “off season” the last year, Sam Milby believes 2013 was a “big growing year” for him as an artist and as a person.

“2013 for me, it was a growth year para sa akin,” the Kapamilya actor told Philstar.com and other media outfits in an interview recently.

He further explained: “Kumbaga, for two years I had an off season. I did a teleserye and a movie lang. This year, ang daming blessings. Dalawang teleserye, Kimmy Dora 3, I did ‘Four Sisters and a Wedding’.”

“It’s the year na I feel very blessed to still have so much work and to be given roles na hindi ko pa nagagawa before.”

In 2012, Sam went to the United States and tried to make it in Hollywood.

He returned to the country January 2013 to do a number of movies and two soap opera—namely, Star Cinema’s “Four Sisters and a Wedding,” Spring Films’ “Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel,” and the ABS-CBN soap operas “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala” with Judy Ann Santos and “Kahit Konting Pagtingin” with Angeline Quinto.

The 29-year-old said in previous interviews that he does not regret leaving the country temporarily even though it stalled his career in the Philippines. He is open about still wanting to pursue his Hollywood dream.

“It’s been a big growing year for me as an artist and as a person. For me, it’s been a great year,” Sam said, adding that his soap opera with Judy Ann was a tipping point for him as an actor in terms of wanting to do more challenging roles.

Sam hopes 2014 will be a much bigger year as he turns 30 this May.

“It should be a big year. Pero ako, I’m more aiming for more challenging roles. Ayoko na bumalik sa mga nagawa ko na dito, gusto ko mas challenging pa, whether sira-ulo or schizophrenic. Basta more challenging para sa akin just to grow more,” he said.

The Kapamilya actor is working on a movie with Anne Curtis and Cristine Reyes. A soap opera with ABS-CBN is also in the works.

Sam also wants to do an album next year, noting that his last album, “Be Mine,” was released two years ago.

“I think 2014 will be a great year,” he ended.
