The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Martin Nievera celebrated his 30 years in the industry not once, but twice with  a repeat of his “3D Tatlong Dekada” concert.

The first staging of the concert  was held on last September 23, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, while the repeat was staged Friday night, November 22 at the same venue.

Accompanied by ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra with Louie Ocampo as music director, Martin performed numerous song numbers.

Before the entertainment started, Martin requested a minute of silence to remember and offer a prayer for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas region.

This was immediately followed by performing some hits like “Feeling Good,” and his original singles “Pain,” and “No Way to Treat a Heart.”

He then invited on stage two of the Kapamilya singers present that night namely Jed Madela and Eric Santos, whom he asked to perform with him the song “Say That You Love Me.”

Martin's guests included Bamboo. Together, they  performed the song “214.”

Another guest in the concert which was sponsored by PLDT MyDSL was X Factor Philippines champion KZ Tandingan, who performed with Martin the song “Scared to Death.” Before their duet, however, Martin teased KZ’s outfit saying, “you look like a croissant!”, earning laughter from the audience.

He also invited on stage Mitoy Yonting, the first-ever winner of The Voice of the Philippines. They performed  the song “Hard Habit to Break.” Martin also revealed that Mitoy was one of his backup singers before.

Another special guest that night was Martin’s twin sister Vicky, who performed with him the song “After All.” He dedicated this song to his family who he said had “neglected” for a long time.

Martin interacted with his audience. After singing  “You Are my Song,” he let some of the audience members take a picture with him or even hug him.

He then returned on stage and was joined by his ex-wife and now best friend Pops Fernandez.

Many from the crowd cheered as the Concert King and Queen reunited that night. Before they started performing the song “Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin,” Pops said, “I’m wearing a dress like this when I’m with you,” prompting Martin to ask why.  Pops then replied, “so you can see what you’re missing out,” which made everyone laugh.

Martin then thanked Pops because “no matter what happened,  for 30 years you’ve always been there for me.”

Martin was also joined by three of the renowned OPM artists namely Zsa Zsa Padilla, Regine Velasquez, and Ogie Alcasid.

Martin and Zsa Zsa performed the song “Maging Sino Ka Man,” which was used as a theme song for the ABS-CBN fantaserye “Juan dela Cruz.”

This performance was followed by songs “Can’t Have it All” and “What Kind of Fool I am” that he belted out with Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez.

After their performance, the audience gave them a standing ovation which lasted for more than a minute.

After Regine’s performance, Martin saw Ogie Alcasid going backstage to fetch his wife ad leave. But then Martin teased him saying, “where are you going? Naghintay ka lang sa asawa mo ganun? Come here on stage!”

Ogie can’t say no to Martin and they performed the song “Lady in Red,” that Martin recalls is the song playing in Ogie’s car during their younger days.

Martin also performed some songs from Broadway—“Music of the Night” which was used at “The Phantom of the Opera,” and “I Dreamed a Dream” which was heard at “Les Miserable.”

The night was capped by the songs “You’re on the Right Track”,  getting the audience to their feet,  and “Forever in My Heart.”

Before leaving the stage, Martin once again thanked everyone who went to the concert, and said that part of the concert's proceeds would be donated to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda through the Sagip Kapamilya Foundation for the Visayas relief operations.
