Erik Santos aims to start a family, penetrate Asian music market

Chuck Smith - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Although his love life hasn’t been making headlines, Erik Santos reveals one of his goals is to start a family in the near future.

“Siguro, in the next three to five years, I have to establish my own family na rin,” he said in an interview with Philstar.com and other entertainment press on Monday, September 9.

Erik added: â€œKasi, kailangan din yun di ba? Yung maka-build ka ng sarili mong pamilya. I’m looking forward to that.”

The 30-year-old singer said he’s been dating lately. Erik adds he prefers to be in a relationship with someone non-showbiz.  “Para tahimik,” he explained.

As for his career goal, Erik said he dreams of penetrating the international music scene, particularly in Asia.

“Siyempre, gusto ko yung music ko mapansin sa international scene. Dream ko yun. And dream yun ng bawat singer na katulad ko,” he said.

This is why he’s continuously sharing his music via social media in the hopes of widening his audience.

Erik explained: â€œNagiging wide yung audience namin, mas maraming nakakarinig ng kanta namin (because of social media). So malay mo, mapansin one time.”

“Ako kasi naniniwala na kung sayo naman, sayo talaga. Kailangan mo lang pagtrabahuhan din talaga,” he added.

Taking a chance

Erik spoke to the press during the pictorial for his upcoming 10th anniversary concert titled “InTENse,” which will be held at the PICC Plenary Hall on November 9.

The Kapamilya singer rose to fame as the winner of the 2003 ABS-CBN reality singing competition “Star in a Million.”

Himself a product of a TV singing competition, is Erik threatened by the numerous singers entering the music scene via reality shows?

“Honestly, yes,” Erik admits. “Lalo sa ngayon, yung platform ng showbiz, people come and go. Ang daming singers. Pero kailangan lang talaga, yung palagi kang may ibinibigay sa tao, palaging may bago sa binibigay mo.”

Erik makes sure to have a concert at least once a year so his audience will get to see him outside ABS-CBN’s Sunday variety show “ASAP.”

“Ang mga tao kasi, lagi kaming nakikita on TV. So, tinetake ko itong chance na ito para makita nila what I can offer pa,” he added.

"Fulfilled ako as a singer. I think sa loob ng sampung taon, naikwento ko yung bawat kwento ng kantang kinakanta ko," Erik says of his 10-year-old career in showbiz.
