Aga Muhlach Life after May 13, 2013

Nathalie Tomada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - For Aga Muhlach, there’s definitely life after the elections.

“Now, I’m feeling relieved because I’m back to my normal, usual life. I’m free again to do anything with my family. You know, I have my life back. Mas mahirap mag-pulitika kaysa mag-artista. Ang politika, your life depends on the people. It’s really for them,” the actor-turned-politician, who was accompanied by wife Charlene, said in an interview at the birthday dinner last Wednesday of A-list talent manager Ethel Ramos (her actual birthday is yesterday, Aug. 1.)

“I have no regrets at all! Masaya ako sa ginawa ko. I enjoyed the campaign. I gave it my all until Election Day. It was an experience of a lifetime. It’s irreplaceable. It was one whole year. I rode the banca, I slept in convents, I went up the mountains, I even bought my own helicopter para lang makaikot ako dun sa mga bundok-bundok. Talagang bawat sulok pupuntahan mo so I saw for myself the situation of the people,” he added.

According to reports, Aga lost by roughly 2,000 votes in the hotly-contested congressional race in the fourth district of Camarines Sur during the mid-term elections last May 13. Aga’s camp filed an electoral protest with the COMELEC, which dismissed it and directed it to the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET). Aga said he is willing to wait for HRET’s decision whether it will come in a year or more.

“I’m not sour-graping. I’m not frustrated. But I felt bad for the people. Yes, malungkot sila (supporters), but what can you do? It’s now beyond my control. Batas yan, we just have to trust it. We have to trust the COMELEC (and) the House of Representatives. If the party, the Liberal Party, would help me in the Congress now, then salamat, but I’m not going to ask for it.”

Asked if he’s open to giving politics another shot in the future, he said, “I wanna see what happens with the case first.”

What Aga is focused right now is getting ready for his acting return.

“Acting na acting na ako. ’Pag nanonood ako ng TV, bakit ganyan ang acting niyan, bakit nagka-ganyan ang acting?” he joked. “But honestly, I’m raring to return. I really miss acting!”

Aga is currently busy losing the extra pounds, most of which he gained during the campaign season. “Hiyang ako sa campaign,” he mused. “Now, I’m just working out and training for three months so that in October, I can start working on a movie. I can’t name the project yet, but it’s just there waiting.”

Is Aga’s reunion movie with Lea Salonga, with whom he did two box-office hits in the ’90s, pushing through? “Tutuloy yan basta pumayat lang,” he said.

Aga, who still has a contract with TV5 and hosts the network’s infotainment show Pinoy Explorer which recently shot episodes in the US, said that he’s also willing to do a soap opera next year. “I don’t want to do drama, but maybe, an action-drama.”
