Speaker Belmonte, 5 more QC congressmen proclaimed

MANILA, Philippines - House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and five more congressional candidates of the Liberal Party in Quezon City were proclaimed on Tuesday afternoon by the city board of canvassers.

The other winning congressional candidates who were proclaimed were Francisco Calalay Jr. (1st District), Winston Castelo (2nd District), Jorge John Banal (3rd District), Alfred Vargas (5th District) and Jose Christopher “Kit” Belmonte (6th District).

Speaker Belmonte was re-elected as representative for Quezon City's 4th District.

Calalay garnered 62,710 votes beating his two opponents Rita Crisologo (57,642) and Jamile Gary (2,132). Castelo got 81,645 votes and defeated former Congressman Ismael “Chuck” Mathay III who had 46,521.

Banal, meanwhile, took 49,731 votes defeating Matias Defensor who had 39,513 votes.

The Speaker won by a landslide with 96,682 votes against the 9,762 votes of his opponent Albert Hans Palacios.

Vargas also won by a huge margin with 67,753 votes over his opponents former Congresswoman Mary Ann L. Susano (26,267), former Congressman Dante V. Liban (11,053) and Isagani H. Oro (4,724).

Kit Belmonte, who ran unopposed, received 77,982 votes.
