Develop an entrepreneurial mindset, Ateneo president urges Pinoys

-

MANILA, Philippines - A university president called on Filipinos to develop an entrepreneurial mindset instead of settling for being employees to help improve the economy.

Ateneo de Manila president Fr. Bienvenido Nebres said Filipinos like to be employees than entrepreneurs.

“If we really want to go up we need to do something better,” Nebres said in his keynote speech during the opening ceremonies of the National Science and Technology Week-Quezon City cluster at the UP-Ayala Land TechnoHub Tuesday.

Nebres said the school system encourages the creation of citizens looking forward to being employees rather than being entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, Nebres also urged the government “to find effective ways to nurture the talents” of the Filipino students.

He said science high schools in the country reach very few talents.

Nebres said the ADMU has partnered with the Quezon City government in developing public elementary and high schools in the city.

Quezon City Mayor Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. said 47 schools run by the government have been provided with computers.

Belmonte also recognized the role of information technology (IT) in creating more jobs for the Filipinos. “Technology in the form of IT stimulates the growth of other businesses. Science and Technology is an area where we Filipinos can excel internationally,” Belmonte said.       – Helen M. Flores
