Bataan kids awarded for win in math contests

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga , Philippines  — Three elementary pupils and a high school student from Bataan province have been given the Youth Excellence in Science (YES) awards from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for winning in various international math competitions last year.

The DOST identified the awardees as Aristotle Nikolai Calica (Grade 2, Balanga Elementary School), Keith Railey Reyes (Grade 6, Dinalupihan Elementary School) and Ronniel Vincent Roberto (Grade 6, The Peninsula School in Limay) bagged medals in the 2016 International Mathematics Wizard Challenge held in Thailand in July last year.

Calica and Roberto brought home silver medals while Reyes received a bronze medal in their respective categories.

In another competition held in Singapore, Janna Patricia Tungol, an alumna of San Ramon Elementary School in Dinalupihan, won the bronze in 2016 International Mathematics Competition held from July 28 to Aug. 1, 2016.

YES is an institutional award through the Science Education Institute given to young students who has shown exemplary achievement in the field of science and mathematics. 

 The awardees were recognized during the moving up ceremony in their respective schools.
