Aboitiz leads creation of Taguig-Pateros’ 1st technological-vocational high school

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Taguig National High School (TNHS), the oldest and biggest high school in Taguig City, is poised to be the first technological-vocational (tech-voc) school in Taguig-Pateros, thanks to teacher trainings and classroom refurbishments recently provided by the Aboitiz Foundation.

The Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Aboitiz Group, has invested in TNHS through the NCII Certification training of five TNHS teachers under the Technology Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The certifications will allow teachers to competently teach technical skills to TNHS students. These certifications were awarded in a simple ceremony last Jan. 28.

In addition to the trainings, the Aboitiz Foundation also refurbished and converted two TNHS classrooms into specialized lecture and workshop rooms for the school’s Electrical and Automotive Technology classes.

The new technology rooms were equipped with brand new tech-voc modules, tools, and equipment designed to enhance students’ learning of technical and vocational skills.

These rooms were turned over to TNHS last March 25 in an event graced by Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano and Department of Education (DepEd) Taguig-Pateros Division Superintendent Danilo Gutierrez.

The DepEd Taguig-Pateros Division of City Schools has recommended the conversion of TNHS into the division’s first public technical-vocational (tech-voc) high school. TNHS is the Aboitiz Foundation’s beneficiary school in Taguig City.

“The Aboitiz Foundation is committed to developing tech-voc high schools in the country. Tech-voc high schools provide excellent educational and livelihood opportunities for public high school students who may not go to college due to financial constraints,” said Augusto Carpio III, Aboitiz Foundation executive vice president and chief operating officer.

The Aboitiz Foundation supports the development of tech-voc high schools in areas where Aboitiz companies operate. Tech-voc high schools will aid the government’s K and 12 program by teaching students technical skills for employment after graduation, or part-time work to support further studies.
