Inter-commercial chessfest returns next month

MANILA, Philippines - The Inter-commercial chess team championship will have its revival next month with the country’s leading companies and top masters heading the early roster in the event to be staged at the Meralco Multi-Purpose Hall in Ortigas, Pasig.

The organizing Jo Torre Events Management said the MVP group of Companies, the National Grid Corp., Shell Philippines, Petron, Caltex Philippines, drug companies, call centers, banks and manufacturing and service companies have signified their intention to join the event on May 28.

The one-day, seven-round Swiss system tournament will have each team fielding in four players who are regular employees of their respective companies for at least six months prior to the start of the tournament.  To level the playing field, each squad will be allowed to field in one titled player with each player allotted 25 minutes and an additional increment of five seconds per move per game. Opening ceremonies will start at 8.30 a.m.

This tournament is sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines with all participants to be rated by the NCFP.
