Capitol creates committee for disaster risk reduction

 CEBU, Philippines - To ensure an immediate response to any disaster in the Province of Cebu, the officials and members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) created an executive committee.

Provincial Board Member Thadeo Ouano, who authored the legislation creating the PDRRMC, said that in their first meeting of the organization, they created an executive committee for easy coordination in terms of disaster.

He said the committee is composed of five who are representatives from the legislative department, the fire bureau, the police, the health department and the Provincial Government.

“Since PDRRMC is composed of 26 members’ lisud ang pag-quorom so we created an executive committee for immediate actions,” he said. (It would be hard to gather all 26 members at one time so we created the committee.

He said it is the executive committee who will coordinate the other members.

The PDRRMC is designed for the development, implementation and coordination of disaster risk reduction and management activities consistent with the Provincial and National Council’s standard and guidelines.

The PDRRMC was created to facilitate aid and other support during any disaster.

The members of the PDRRMC are officials from the Provincial Government Offices, Red Cross, Fire, Department of Education, Department of the Interior and Local Government, environment department and officials from the legislative branch.

The council is headed by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.  (FREEMAN)
