Surban rules Catmon mountainbike

NINO Surban continued to dominate the local scene again, this time, winning the 2006 Catmon Cross Country Mountainbike Challenge in Catmon, Cebu yesterday.

Surban, who is under the Quickflight-J Marketing and Danaotel team, claimed the open division title with ease in one hour, 21 minutes and 42 seconds.

Evic Largo was a distant second placer in 1:27.43 while Albert Basirgo, also from Quickflight-J Marketing, was third in 1:31:43.

In the 29-under class, Eusebio Rabanes upsets veteran Noel Famor for the top post while Dexter Sabal was third.

The 30-39 class, on the other hand, saw Ramon Espinosa ruling the battle with Jun Tadeo and Christopher Marzon at second and third places, respectively.

Ben Fabroa reigned in the 40-above class over Pericles Magdadaro and Epie Ragasajo ended third.

The fatboys class had Benito Javier as the fastest as Rudy Laurito settled second and Noel Hinayas at third place.

Charlie La Pena also braved the battle and won the beginner's class against Ruben Basanez while Eliezar Masong was left with the third place in this highly-successful event organized by the Catmon Off-Road Bikers Racing Association(COBRA) led by its president Andrew Bustamante.

Participants, who failed to land into the winners list, didn't come home empty-handed since lots of bike goodies were raffled off. Thanks to the event's sponsors including Adobo-Vello, a Filipino-American Cycling Club, CPA, Mill's Aid, YKK, Ryan Roldan also known RR and Country Villa for the prizes in the event held as part of Catmon's fiesta celebration.
