Cebuano grapplers sizzle in IBJJF Open
CEBU, Philippines — A bunch of Cebuano grapplers led by purple belt Leo Paolo Gaerlan stamped their respective classes in the 2018 IBJJF Manila Jiujitsu International Open over the weekend at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Gaerlan of Atos Philippines Cebu scored a double-gold by dominating both Gi and No-Gi events in the 76 kgs. class. He also snared silver medal in the No-Gi absolute division.
Gaerlan’s teammate Jay Uy, on the other hand, bagged a pair of bronze medals in the No-Gi absolute class.
The other gold medallists came from Overlimit Jiujitsu Academy through the efforts of blue-belter Paul Christian Hubahub in light featherweight division of the Gi masters and white belter Francis Bitamor in the featherweight masters category.
The rest of the Cebuano medallists were Lourence Cabaluna, Maricar Villegas and Odie Damaolao (silver) and Cesar Cabang, Vida Victoria Coloyan and Hollie Damaolao (bronze).
The IBJJF Manila Open is an annual jiujitsu tournament participated in by grapplers all over the world. (FREEMAN)
