Pyroworks chessfest unfurls today
CEBU, Philippines — Close to a hundred pawnpushers will try to outdo each other as the Pyroworks Handicapping Open Chess Tournament gets underway today at Basement 2 of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
Game time starts at 12nn.
Since the 7-round Swiss system competition follows a handicapping format, Class A players will be given only seven minutes per game and 15 minutes for Class B participants.
The champion in the one-day tilt bankrolled by Cebuano chess patron Boojie Lim in association with the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) will take home P10,000. The second to fifth placers will pocket P5,000, P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.
The sixth to 10th will receive get P500 each, while the 11-20th will have P300.
The top kiddie, lady, senior (60-above) and CEPCA players will get P500 apiece.
Entry fee is pegged at P150 for kiddies, Ladies and Cepcans, and P250 for regular players. The organizers will be accepting on-site registration an hour before the mind-draining action begins.
