In the 5K action, triathlete Andrew Kim Remolino and Cherry Andrin reigned supreme in their respective divisions.

Remolino ruled the men’s class in 16 minutes and 11 seconds followed by Jhon Marc Rizon (16:33) and Jovan Bensig (17:00) at second and third place, respectively.

Andrin, for her part, survived a tough match against Mary Joy Loberanis to grab the top spot with a time of 19:46. Loberanis came in second with 20:34 clocking, while Karen Manayon settled for third with her 20:45.

Meanwhile, Kenyan Eric Chepsiror (16:12) and Lizane Abella (19:45) dominated the 5K Open category.

The top 20 finishers of each grassroots age-groups will be part of the Visayas pool and will be sent to compete in the second leg of the race in Iloilo City on August 11.

"What we are looking here is the next Mary Joy Tabal. I hope this is a  positive start for the things to come this 2018," said Philippine Sport Commission (PSC) Commissioner Ramon Fernandez. (FREEMAN)
