CEBU, Philippines — Talisay City Councilor Rodi Cabigas commended the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for initiating and hosting the Children's Games Sports for Peace at the city's People's Plaza.

"This (Children's Games) is a beautiful program. Some barangays maybe didn't understand the importance of this event, but for me, this is a very commendable event. Not just that this introduce sports and its primary components, which is discipline and sportsmanship to the children, this also advocates teamwork, value formation and cooperation. Dili gyud ni kalimtan sa mga bata,"

Cabigas said.

Out of the 22 barangays in Talisay City, only 18 sent representatives. The absentees include barangays Bulacao, Dumlog, Campo 4 and Jaclupan.

According to Talisay City Sports Commission executive director Jeanette Villagonzalo, the said barangays did not even bother to give reasons or acknowledged the invitations.

Philippines Sports Commissioner Ramon Fernandez, on the other hand, was grateful for the support of Talisay LGU under the flagship of mayor Eduardo 'Eddiegul' R. Gullas.

"You should strive to become an excellent athlete so that you can help your parents and your family. It is a big help already to your parents if you can get athletic scholarship, much more if you earn out of your being an athlete," Fernandez told the 700-plus participating children.

Danao City will be the next stop of the Children's Games on December 15-16. (FREEMAN)
