Lancers, Warriors rekindle rivalry as AsPac U Games unwraps today
CEBU, Philippines — The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors renew their rivalry as the 2nd Asia Pacific University Games (APUG) kicks off with its centerpiece basketball event today at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Lancers and the Warriors, who clashed in the finals for two consecutive seasons in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) in 2015 and 2016, will lock up horns in the opening match at 3 p.m.
In the second game at 4:30 p.m., the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers will collide with Universiti of Technologi Mara of Malaysia, while the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars will take on Jiangxi Provincial Pingxiang Experimental School of China in the main game at 6 p.m.
The three-nation tilt will follow a single round robin format. The top two teams will then clash for the championship in a sudden-death affair on December 11.
Aside from basketball, the other sporting disciplines to be contested are table tennis at Robinsons Galleria Cebu, badminton at Racket Zone in Montebello Villa Hotel and lawn tennis at CitiGreen Tennis Resort. (FREEMAN)
