Amit eyes morale-boosting win in OPBF convention

CEBU, Philippines — After losing in his last fight to veteran Froilan Saludar, Salatiel Amit will try to get his career back on track as he takes on Carlo Caesar Penalosa for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council silver flyweight title on November 10 at the Puerto Princesa Coliseum.

The fight, which is Amit's first since losing in the ninth round to veteran Froilan Saludar last June, is part of the Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation Convention, giving the four-year pro of Omega stable a chance to showcase his skills in front of boxing stakeholders in the region.

Amit is 10-3-2 with seven knockout wins, while Penalosa is 9-1 and is on a two-fight win streak.

Aside from boosting his career, an impressive win could get Amit lucrative offers from abroad as the OPBF convention will have representatives from Australia, Fiji, Guam, Hawaii, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, New Zealand, China, Samoa, Taiwan, Thailand and Tonga.

The workhorse Amit has a slight edge in experience over Penalosa, having fought for the WBC international light flyweight title last year. He faced Jonathan Taconing for the belt but lost in 10 rounds.

With two losses in his last three fights, Amit needs a morale-boosting win to get noticed by the stakeholders and he may get that against the 24-year-old Penalosa.

Though he has an impressive 9-1 record, Penalosa hasn't faced a fighter of Amit's caliber yet as he has fought mostly in small cards against boxers with losing records. His lone loss came against Reymark Taday, who was 5-2 when they faced last Feb. 25. (BANAT NEWS)
