USC South scores in CYBL hoop

CEBU, Philippines — The University of San Carlos South Campus scored two victories at the resumption of the Cebu Youth Basketball League 3rd Conference played at the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Mango Avenue campus gym over the weekend that featured a total of fifteen games.

In an Under 10 game, USC South defeated PAREF-Springdale, 29-15, while their Under 15 Division 1 counterparts scored a 60-41 win over USJ-R to go 2-0.

In other Division 1 games, Sisters of Mary Boystown School scored its first win in two games by thumping USJ-R, 44-24. Meanwhile, USPF cruised to an 88-36 win over Thumbs Up-A, 86-36 for its second straight win in as many games.

In Division 2 games of the Under 12 age group,  Monterey School of Talisay defeated SCSIT, 46-33. Cebu Elite squeaked past USC South, 26-23. Ermita surprised SWU-PHINMA, 40-35.

In Division 2 Under 15 games, Coach Leo Basketball Academy won over SHS-AdC 3, 49-20. Compre went 2-0 after beating Cebu Elite B, 68-22. One on One-B outclassed SACS, 60-37. Cebu Elite A won over PAREF-Springdale, 45-28. Alocillo Training School-2 won over RD Basketball, 46-23.

DSOMNHS/Labangon is now 2-0 after winning over Thumbs Up-B, 52-46. SCSIT scored its first win after an opening game loss via a close 48-43 decision over RD Basketball.

The CYBL 3rd Conference is the year-ending tournament of the CYBL with a total of 73 teams spread over four age groups: Under 10, 12, 15 and 19. The Under 12 and 15 age groups are split into two divisions with the stronger teams playing in Division One while the developmental teams play in Division Two.

Among those who used to play in the CYBL include today’s crop of college players like UP’s Paul Desiderio, Jun Manzo and Janjan Jaboneta; DLSU’s Santi Santillan; NU’s Dave Yu and Joshua Flores; and UST’s Zachy Huang.

The tournament takes a break over the holidays and semestral break of schools and resumes play on November 11.
