Panis, Garces rule Aloguinsan beach volley

CEBU, Philippines — The tandem of Suzet Panis and Kennette Garces bagged the title of the first Aloguinsan Beach Volleyball Invitation for Women yesterday at the reclamation area of Aloguinsan in the southern part of Cebu.

Panis and Garces upended the duo of Gelly Murpos and Gerlie Talisic in a three-setter.

After fumbling in the first set, 16-21, Panis and Garces found some ray of hope when they pulled off a hard-earned 21-18 to forge an equalizer.

In the decider, both sides went hot as they exchanged points to the delight of the crowd but Panis and Garces showed to have more confidence as they sustain their momentum and made it all the way to a thrilling 17-15 victory to wrap up the match.

Meanwhile, Karisse Manhilot and Christina Mercado outsmarted Kara Louise Evangelista and Daryl Querubin, 21-11, 15-21, 17-15, to grab the third place trophy.

Aside from trophies, the champion received P15,000, while the second and third pocketed P10,000 and P7,000 pesos, respectively. (FREEMAN)
