Lagunday, Mendiola top Jawad Table Tennis
CEBU, Philippines — Marell Lagunday and Zoren Mendiola emerged as the biggest winners in 26th Erne Jawad Memorial Table Tennis Championship that concluded the other day at the Ribonsins Galleria.
Lagunday of Bacolod City outsmarted Diana Oliverio of University of Cebu, 11-6, 11-6, 5-11, 11-9, to retain her women’s crown. Athena Comaingking claimed the bronze medal.
In the men’s side, Mendiola of Hua Ching Foundation bagged the title with a thrilling five setter over Val Stephen Jaca of UC, 5-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9. Jaca’s teammate Celjun Ortalla settled for the bronze.
Meanwhile, two LOPTTA bets in Kyllie Sophia Villanueva and John Michael Castro ruled their respective classes.
Villanueva silenced Naga’s Patricia Reneses for the girls’13 title while Castro topped the boys 18 class over UC’s Eljay Don Tormis.
The boys’13 saw University of San Carlos’ Carl Aquino with the gold after beating Naga’s Patrick Raneses while Danao City’s Kathleen Gabisay nabbed the girls 18 title over UC’s Lindy Marie Darlo. (FREEMAN)
