Support pours in for Run to Help Brian

Multi-titled Cebuana cyclist Ica Maximo, second from left, wearing the TRIbu Lapu-Lapu uniform and together with the PNP where Brian Guillen belongs, lead the runners in the Run to Help Brian.

CEBU, Philippines - They had a few things in common.

They were teammates in TRIbu Lapu-Lapu and both relay teams were chasing a podium finish in the 2017 Ironman 70.3 Phils last August 6, 2017 in Lapu-Lapu City.

Brian Guillen, who was the 21k runner of the TRIbu All Male relay, collapsed and did not make it to the finish line. Their team did not finish.

On the other hand, Quintana Roo 90km cyclist Ica Maximo helped her TRIbu team bagged the gold in the All Female relay category.

"I was shocked when I learned of what happened to my teammate. It was so sad. I just realized it can happen to anybody," said the 18-year-old Grade 12 student of Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus.

"I am joining the run to support Brian's family raise the needed funds to help defray the expenses of the hospital bills," shares the SRAM YKK Bikes test rider.

Yesterday's Run to Help Brian raised an initial amount of more than P34,000 (details of this & current medical condition of Brian can be sourced c/o Brian's younger sister Danah Guillen 0935-8224203 who represented the family during the run event).

"I wished Brian to get well soon and enjoy the sport we all love to do," said the former Batang Pinoy national champion. (FREEMAN)
