Minglanilla tames Talisay anew in Gov. Cup hoop

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Minglanilla reaffirmed its mastery over the Talisay City but not without passing through some scare before eking out a close 80-78 decision over the Aqua Stars at the start of the South Division quarterfinals in the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities and Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Samboan municipal gym last Saturday night.

Mark Justine Nebril knocked in three 3-pointers of his 11 points in the second quarter to help Minglanilla take a shaky 42-40 edge at the bend.

Mark's brother Marc Glen Nebril then took over the scoring chores by tossing in 10 points in the third canto to pad Minglanilla's lead to six points, 62-56.

Jhiey Paraldo tried to carry Talisay on his shoulders but his solitary effort couldn't make any wonders for his side.

Minglanilla, on the other hand, amassed the needed points from  Jan Josehn Mangaron and Jiesel Tarrosa to keep their heads above the water until the final buzzer.

The  Nebril brothers Mark Justine and Marc Glen connived for 41 points, while Tarrosa and Mangaron finished with 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Minglanilla.

Paraldo erupted for a game-high 33 points but his singular offensive outburst proved futile for Talisay.

In the other games, Dalaguete also scored a repeat performance over Samboan, 76-65, in the same way with Toledo City against Barili, 88-79. — EBV (FREEMAN)
