CEBU, Philippines - One-time world title challenger Vic ‘Vicious’ Saludar (14-2, 9KOs) will take center stage as he battle Toto ‘Muscovado’ Landero (8-2, 2KOs) in the main event of the ‘Engkwentro dinhi sa Mandaue’ fight card on June 10 at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

Saludar and Landero will mix it up in a non-title bout scheduled for 10 rounds under the minimumweight division.

“This fight is important for Vic because he needs to be active as he is now ranked No.2 by the WBO,” said boxing promoter Kenneth Rontal of Championship Boxing Development Philippines in a press conference yesterday at the Abuhan Dos.

WBO Asia Pacific vice-president Leon Panoncilio, for his part, said that this is Saludar’s chance to show that he deserve to vie for the WBO minimumweight belt again after failing in his first attempt against Japanese Kosei Tanaka who stopped him in the eleventh round on December 31, 2015 in Nagoya, Japan.

“He has a big chance to challenge for the world title this year. Saludar has a bright future and I believe that he can bounce back and finally become a world champion,” said Panoncilio.

In the supporting main event also set for 10 rounds, unbeaten prospect Vince Paras (10-0, 9KOs) of General Santos will slug it out with Jimboy Haya (10-2, 6KOs) of the Omega Boxing Gym for the vacant WBO Youth junior flyweight title.

Saludar’s brother, Froilan (24-2, 15KOs) will also see action against Salatiel Amit (10-2, 7KOs), while Robert Paradero of General Santos City will stake his clean slate against journeyman Fabio Marfa (25-33, 12KOs).

In a special attraction scheduled for six rounds, Hawaiian female boxer Casey Morton (4-0, 3KOs) will clash with Phallanuk Kongsang of Thailand. (FREEMAN)
