CEBU, Philippines - The undefeated Mandaue City sustained its explosive run with an 83-54 shellacking of Liloan to fortify its hold of lead in North Division Bracket 1 of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup Under-21 Basketball Tournament over the weekend at the Kai Sports Complex in Liloan.

After a lukewarm start that saw them leading by only four points, 17-13, the Mandaue cagers stepped up the scoring plate in the next three quarters behind the leadership of All-Star center Jancork Cabahug to come up with a 29-point romp.

Cabahug finished with 16 points, Froilan Mangubat and Jeric Gonzaga each scored 13 while John Benedick Damolo chipped in with 10 markers as Mandaue raced to its fourth straight win in as many starts. The Teroy Albarillo-mentored Liloan slipped to 1-3.

In the other Bracket N1 match-up, Consolacion kept its quarterfinal bid alive after trouncing the previously unbeaten Compostela, 79-65.

Down South, Toledo City booked the first quarterfinal ticket in South Division Bracket 3 after gunning down host Barili, 73-61, at the Barili Sports Complex.

Tommy Bubuli had 21 points as Toledo stretched its hot streak to four games. He got huge help from Triple Epilan and Ralph Reston with 10 points each.

Barili closed within just four points at halftime, 31-35, but Bubuli churned out eight points in a 25-16 spurt that gave Toledo a commanding 60-46 lead heading into the final quarter. Barili staged a last ditch rally but Toledo held on its ground behind the game-long brilliance of Bubuli.

Breathing down Toledo's neck in Bracket S3 is Badian, which stayed on course for next round's battle with a masterful 93-49 demolition of Alcantara. (FREEMAN)
