Caligdong stars in ERCO-BRO victory

CEBU, Philippines - Former Philippine Azkals team captain Chieffy Caligdong scored a hat-trick to power the ERCO-BRO Nationals to a dominating 14-0 win over the Avengers in the premiere men’s open division of the 18th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday.

After missing ERCO-BRO’s first game, Caligdong came out aggressive as he connected three goals in the 10th, 24th and 25th.

Cebuano Joy Roy Melgo and Cameronian Madi Nji Taniform also registered four goals each for ERCO-BRO’s second straight win.

Three more goals were contributed by Jhemar Vergara on the 47th, Rostom Seares on the 69th and Diomar Caruscay on the 73rd.

Earlier, the University of San Jose-Recoletos booters claimed their first win in two games at the expense of Don Bosco United, 4-0.

Samba, for its part, improved its standing in Group A with a 3-1 win-loss card after silencing University of San Carlos, 1-0. (FREEMAN)
