CEBU, Philippines - Hardcourt warriors from the business processing outsource sector will have another avenue to showcase their skills through the 1st DH25 Inter-BPO Basketball Cup set to kick off in January 21 next year.

The three-month tilt was formally launched by the tournament forerunner himself, Cebuano PBA star Dondon Hontiveros,  together with his pool of coaches yesterday at McDonald’s in Cebu IT Park.

“This tournament is an activity to engage everyone in playing basketball specially the young  professionals,” said Hontiveros, a two-time PBA champion who is currently playing for the Alaska Aces.

“This league is open to all BPO companies to promote physical fitness, good health and the spirit of competition through basketball,” he added.

Each team shall be composed of a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 20 players. Only 15 are allowed to play in every game. All players must be a bonafide employee of the BPO company he represents and must be currently employed for at least three months.

Hontiveros said players or team officials  who are joining the league have the opportunity to send their kids aged eight to 17 years old to attend the DH25 Basketball Training Camp in the middle of the tournament for free.

On the other hand, Hontiveros said the league will impose stiff sanctions on erring parties.

In particular, any player, coach or team official who engages in a fight, intentionally hurts of causes bodily harm to any player, spectator, team or game officials before, during or after the game will be banned from the tournament.

Any player, coach or team officials baiting or taunting an opponent will be suspended for two games or will be banned for the rest of the conference defending on the gravity of the offense.

This early, at least three teams have already confirmed their participation. These are SSI, Supportsave and Accenture.

Entry fee is pegged at P12,000 plus a cash bond of P5,000. Aside from the top performing teams, individual achievers will also be honored at the end of the tournament such as the regular season and finals MVP and Mythical Five.
