Punishers, Subzero Idols set up grudge final rematch in IBP caging
CEBU, Philippines - The Punishers and Subzero Idols booted out separate foes to set up a grudge rematch for the championship of the 2016 Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)-Cebu Basketball League over the weekend at the Capitol Parish gym along Escario Street in Cebu City.
Resti Arnaiz cashed in 14 points as the Punishers kicked out the Badboys, 71-60, while Fermin Pepito nailed 16 markers and Jeremie Nuñez had a solid double-double show of 10 points and 10 assists as the Subzero Idols sent the undermanned Dzntrz packing, 74-62. Jessie Capoy also figured prominently for the Subzero Idols with 13 points.
While the Subzero Idols had a balanced offensive, the Dzntrz was hit hard by the absence of its two star players in Kenneth Kernn Sesante and Wilkins Requina who are both on a personal trip abroad. Compounding its woes was the fouling out of defensive specialist Rainier Apolinario with still three minutes left to play.
The Punishers, on the other hand, also drew stellar performances from Van Ligutan, Benjo Santiago and Tope Ang with 33 points combined.
They will take on their old rivals Subzero Idols in a sudden-death title match at 5 p.m. on October 1, right after the battle for third place between the Badboys and Dzntrz.
