CEBU, Philippines - A total of P150,000 in cash prize is at stake for the fastest entries in the 447th Cebu Province Founding Anniversary Run this Sunday starting and ending at the Capitol grounds.

The biggest chunk will go to the winners in the 20-kilometer open, with the men's and women's champion in both the local and foreign categories pocketing P10,000 each. The second and third placers will receive P7,000 and P5,000, respectively.

In the 10K all-local category, the top three men and women finishers will take home a uniform cash prize of P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000.

The top three boys and girls winners in the 5K grassroots division will get P3,000, P2,000 and P1,500, while the 3K top performers will take home P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000.

To spice up the race, there will be an exclusive battle among Capitol employees, with the top five raking in P5,000, P3,000, P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000. Those who will make it to the top 10 will have a consolation prize of P500 each.

“We are hoping that the race will be a big success as we are planning to stage not just one but a series of races in different municipalities in Cebu next year,” said Attorney Ramil P. Abing, Cebu Provincial Sports Commission vice-chairman.

So far, a total of 800 plus runners have already confirmed their entry but Lyle Larida of the organizing Cebu Provincial Sports Commission said they are expecting the number to reach over one thousand on race day especially that they will be accepting on-site registration.

Entry fee is pegged at P500 for the 20K and P300 for the 10K. One may register at the Cebu Provincial Office or at the Cebu City Sports Center. (FREEMAN)
