CEBU, Philippines - A total of 16 teams will battle it out for supremacy in the 2nd Don Bosco Cebu Alumni, Inc. (DBCAI) Basketball Tournament, which will kick off this Saturday at the Don Bosco Technology Center gymnasium in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

The contenders are divided into four brackets of four teams each. The top two from each bracket will advance into the crossover quarterfinals.

Bracket A is composed of Clifford, Magone, Rua and Namuncura, while bracket B has Srugi, Passarelle team of Don Bosco, Vecchi and Beltrami.

Savio, Caravario, Chavez and Zatti make up bracket, C while Mertens, Orione, Vicuña and Cafasso complete bracket D.

The annual tilt is aimed at fostering camaraderie and renewing old ties among the school’s alumni through sports.

Though a friendly competition, harsh punishment will be meted on erring players, especially those who will commit non-basketball play such as fighting.

A total ban from the tournament will be imposed on players who will throw a punch or close fist during a play, while a technical foul subject for ejection and suspension will also be slapped against players who will throw intentional elbows during games.

To give way to students and workers, games will be played only during weekends.

To ensure parity, the players that will comprise each team were chosen via draft.

The champion team in the tournament organized by Run Jump Shoot Sports Events and outfitted by Tough Gear Sportswear will pocket P60,000. (FREEMAN)
