CEBU, Philippines - Rio Olympics silver medalist in weightlifting Hidilyn Diaz will visit Cebu as one of the invited speakers for ‘The Process of building Olympians’ organized by Epic Performance Fitness on September 4 at the City Sports Club Cebu.

Diaz delivered the lone medal for the country in the recent 2016 Olympics. Her silver medal is Philippines’ first since Mansueto ‘Onyok’ Velasco triumph in boxing at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

The 25-year-old Diaz is expected to share some of her experiences of being an Olympic weightlifter.

She will be joined by Olympic boxer Charly Suarez who is trained by Epic Performance’s coach Pio Solon. Diaz, for her part, trained under the tutelage of Solon’s colleague Jay Futalan, the head strength and conditioning coach of the Philippine Sports Commission.

Futalan will also give tips on how to make an athlete more competitive in an international sporting event like the Olympics.

The organizers said that there are 300 slots available for those who are interested to attend the seminar. Registration fee is pegged at P1000 and P700 for students inclusive of a certificate of participation and meal. (FREEMAN)
