Double twinkill for UV, SWU
CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas Green Lancers and the Southwestern University Cobras pulled off a rare double twinkill in the 16th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. men's basketball tournament over the weekend at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Green Lancers followed up the 67-61 triumph of their younger counterparts over the previously unbeaten University of Cebu Junior Webmasters with an 83-69 romp of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers.
Southwestern U, now managed by Phinma Education, scored its first ever double victory in the league.
After their high school comrades blasted the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildkittens, 70-58, the Cobras went to repeat their mastery over the University of San Jose-Recoletos although this time they need an extra five-minute period before taming the Jaguars, 85-71.
The Lancers and the Cobras thus continue to share the collegiate division lead with identical 4-0 win-loss cards. The Jaguars fell to 2-2 while the Panthers are still without win in four starts.
Meanwhile, defending champions University of San Carlos Warriors shoot for their second win in three games when they battle the CIT-U Wildcats today at 6:45 pm.
Before the USC-CIT duel, the Don Bosco Greywolves will try to extend their all-time best start to 4-0 when they take on the Baby Cobras in the 5:15 p.m. opener. EBV (FREEMAN)
