Manzo back to UV’s fold

CEBU, Philippines - Jun Kent Manzo learned a lesson on loyalty the hard way.

The controversial Cebuano pointguard is now back in the arms of the University of the Visayas two months after he and forward Leonard Santillan dumped the Green Lancers to hook up with the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

Manzo's return did not come without a price, a heavy one so to speak.

The All-Star playmaker will sit out for one year and can only don the Lancers' uniform again in the 2017 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc, (CESAFI) season.

"All I can say is that we're happy that he's back," said UV basketball team manager Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas, Jr. "But he has to sit out first for one year before he can wear the Lancers' uniform again."

Gullas has indicated in an earlier Facebook post that loyalty matters for him in all his dealings.

In a separate interview, Manzo is just as happy to be reunited with the Lancers, who polished his raw talents to become the best hardcourt sentinel he could possibly be.

"Lipay kaayo ko kay ila gihapon ko nga gidawat bisan nakahimo ko og dakong sayup," said a remorseful Manzo. "Mangayo lang ko pasaylo usab sa Gullas family, sa UV community, sa akoang mga teammates ug sa mga fans tungod sa akong nahimo."

Manzo said what happened taught him valuable lessons in life, to value loyalty and to never rush things up especially on delicate matters where his future as a cager is at stake.

"Naleksiyon gyud ko sa akong nabuhat. Importante nga makamao ka mo-value og loyalty ug dili magdali-dali og desisyon sa kinabuhi," he added.

As he reflects on the past happenings of his life with deep regret, Manzo also looks forward with zest and enthusiasm to fighting again in the name of the Lancers.

"Ako gyud na paabuton ang higayon nga makaduwa ko og balik sa UV. Og kun maabot na gani na nga panahon, akong buhaton kutob sa akong mahimo aron makatabang nga ma-champion ang Lancers," vowed Manzo. (FREEMAN)
