UST Tigers to invade Cebu for 1st Recoletos hoopfest
CEBU, Philippines - The University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers of the prestigious University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) will be coming over to the Queen City of the South to show off their hardcourt skills in the 1st Recoletos de Cebu Cup men's basketball tournament on July 14-17 at the University of San Jose-Recoletos Basak Campus Coliseum.
Led by veteran mainstays Kent Jefferson Lao and Jeepy Faundo, the Boy Sablan-mentored Tigers will parade all their six rookie players including Cebuano Zachary Lance Eden Huang in the four-day tilt.
The 6-foot-3 Huang won two championships while playing for the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI)
Huang and the Tigers will go up against top CESAFI ballclubs led by reigning champions University of San Carlos Warriors, University of the Visayas Green Lancers and host USJ-R Jaguars.
"This event promotes excellent exposure not only to our basketball team but to the university as a whole," said USJ-R Sports Moderator Rev. Fr. Nestor C. Raras, OAR.
USJ-R assistant coach and high school sports coordinator Leode Garcia said the tournament follows a single round robin format, with the top two teams automatically slugging it out for the championship in a winner-take-all affair. EBV (FREEMAN)
