Watch out Ironman, here comes IronGirl

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The girls deserve some spotlight too.

In the afternoon of August 5, it's the men's turn to cheer on the girls at the "IronGirl dressed up by Running Skirts 5K Run."

The exciting sidelight of this year's Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championships at Shangri-la's Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City is a fun running event open to females 12 years old and above.

Princess Galura, general manager of the organizing Sunrise Event, Inc., said over a hundred runners have already signed up for the landmark run.

Leading the early birds is Belinda Granger, a retired pro triathlete from Australia. Dimity Lee Duke of Australia and Radka Vodickova of Czech Republic have also expressed their intent to join the side event of the first ever AsPac Ironman race on Asian soil.

The rest of the early registrants are participants of the IM 70.3 itself, while the others are either wives, girlfriends, partners and other supporters of Ironman all over the country.

All runners will be wearing skirts provided by the organizers while they deal with a five-kilometer route around Lapu-Lapu City.

Entry fee is pegged at P650 or US$15 inclusive of a finisher shirt and running skirt as part of the race pack. A special discount will be given for a group of 5 or 4+1.

Every finisher will get a specially-crafted IronGirl medal and goodies.
