Fiel, Bustillo shine in CEPCA monthly tourney

CEBU, Philippines - Yves Christian Fiel and Mario Bustillo dominated the June edition of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association  monthly tournament over the weekend at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Fiel and National Master Rogelio Enriquez, Jr. were actually tied with 5.5 points after the 6-round Swiss system competition but Fiel went on to grab the group A title courtesy of a higher tie-breaker. Peterson Sia finished third with 3.0 points followed by Carlo Maraat with 2.0 points.

Since Fiel, Enriquez and Sia also qualified, Maraat claimed the June slot for the grand finals set this December.

Bustillo, on the other hand, topped group B with 4.5 points. Manuel Abucay and CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas are joint second and third with 4.0 points each, while Jun Kidlat and Sol Bagalihog completed the top five with 3.0 points apiece.

Bustillo thus advanced to the club's year-ending tilt also known as the 'Battle of Champions.'
