Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Jose Maria Pague of Zamboanga Sibugay proved too much for Cebu's Marc Rhandale Pradel, 8-1, to barge into the boys 18  semifinals of the 2016 B-Meg Junior Tennis Cup-Cebu leg at Pardo Tennis Club yesterday.

Pague faces next Rucel Cero for a final berth.  Cero advanced after Feb Wendell Deja retired with Cero leading at 6-3.

Pague also reached the last four of the boys 16 age-group after crushing Ibarra Ortega, 8-4. He is joined into the semis by Richard Bautista, who kept his title hopes alive following an 8-3 rout of Venz Anton Louise Alforque.

Alforque though still has something to look forward to as he made it to the boys 14 quarterfinals after eliminating Jan Adrian Kho.

Bautista, for his part, cloberred Leandry Albofera, 8-6, in the said class as James Vincent Abad escaped past Nicholas Allain Ocat, 8-6.

On the other hand, the likes of Henz Aslan Carbonilla, Elaiquim Dela Rosa, Jonathan Largo, Roman Guangko, Gio John Manito, Jeb Secusana, CJ Thalia Suson and Aaron Kevin Tabura rolled into the next round, with most of them enjoying wins via walkover.

In the girls side, Mary Aubrey Calma is the first one to the reach semifinals through the girls 18 after posting a lopsided 8-2 victory against Josette Nator.

In the 16-under, the likes of Zethley Mae Alferez, Sydney Enriquez and Elizabeth Abarquez joined Calma in the quarterfinals. Alferez dumped Josette Nator, 8-0, Enriquez outsmarted Kristine Renee Salimbangon, 8-3, and Abarquez silenced Phel Hazel Coderos, 8-1.

Phel Bless Coderos, on the other hand, jumped into the girls 14 quarters after winning by default over a no-show Katrina Plopenio. — (FREEMAN)
