Cebuano karatekas shine in Bacolod
CEBU, Philippines - The Association for the Upliftment of Karatedo led by coach Rhodee Saavedra of Talisay City emerged triumphant in the Philippine Karatedo Traditional and Sports Summer Games Championships in Bacolod City recently.
The 11-member squad of Saavedra went home with a dozen golds laced with seven silvers and two bronzes.
Criel Labrada and Gerald Augustin Baclaan led the charge with two golds each. Labrada topped the senior advance kata and the 67 kgs kumite, while Baclaan also stamped his class in both kata and kumite of the boys 16-17 age-group.
The rest who delivered golds were kata specialists Giovani Ephraim Apuya (10-12), Jeremy Laurence Nopre (13-15), Alhexiz Enad (senior advanced), Zacharie Abriel Dumpa (novice kata/10-12), Lord Jacob Alisoso (intermediate kata/7-9), Hannah Kye Abao(kumite 7-9), and Allison Kyle Alivio Quiroga (kumite 13-15).
Coach Saavedra's wards also got the men's team kata gold through the efforts of Gerald Augustin Baclaan, Felix Calipusan Jr. and Jeremy Laurence Nopre.
The silvers came from Lord Jacob Alisoso, Jeremy Laurence Nopre, Felix Calipusan, Alhexiz Enad, Hannah Kye Abao, Allison Kyle Quiroga, and Jason Roi Manayon, while Zacharie Abriel Dumpa and Calipusan handed over the bronze medals.— (FREEMAN)
