USJ-R settles for 2nd in Nestea Beach Volley
CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Jose-Recoletos spiking Jaguars missed the crown in the mens division of the 2016 Nestea Beach Volley Championships yesterday in Boracay Island.
This after exhaustion caught up with the tandem of Kent Jay Verbosidad and Alastair Gairanod that hampered their bid in the championship match against University of Santo Tomas.
USJ-R was outgunned by UST in straight sets, 21-11, 21-18.
The Jaguars played a total of three matches yesterday beating Mapua Institute of Technology for the semis ticket.
USJ-R then faced fellow Cebuano team Southwestern University with Jaguars prevailing in a tough 31-33, 21-17, 15-13.
With only a little time to rest, Verbosidad and Gairanod could only do as much and ended with the runner-up trophy.
“Grabe na gyud namo nga kapoya, pero sige lang naa pay sunod. Bawi lang mi next time,” said the PRISAA National Games MVP Verbosidad.
SWU also landed at fourth place after falling in the hands of Holy Cross of Davao College. SWU lady spikers also failed to move to the next round after losing against San Sebastian College, 12-21, 20-22, 15-13. (FREEMAN)
