DepEd lauds Naga City as CVIRAA host

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Education Region VII lauded first time host Naga City after a successful staging of the 2016 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Regional Meet.

At the closing ceremony of the week-long multi-sporting eventlast Friday, Naga City gained positive remarks.

With this, DepEd-VII is open to the idea bringing back CVIRAA to Naga City next year also the chance of hosting Palarong Pambansa in the coming years.

Naga City Mayor Val Chiong promised that their Olympic-size pool will be ready next year. The swimming event of the recent CVIRAA was held at the Cebu City Sports Center.

While looking at the progress of the construction of the pool, Chiong also realized that they need to make an addition pool for the beginners.

He also added that they are set to build a new football field to be located at the reclaimed baywalk area while some barangays in the city are set to construct new covered courts.

 For his part, DepEd-VII chief administrative officer Dr.Victor Yntig said that the Naga can already write a letter of intent to host the next CVIRAA and even the Palarong Pambansa.

DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro suggested that hosts for the Palarong Pambansa in the next three to five years should be identified and named early.

Palarong Pambansa will return to Visayas for the 2018 Palarong Pambansa, giving Naga City a chance to host and an ample time to prepare. (FREEMAN)
