CEBU, Philippines - Buoyed by its ardent desire to develop future Filipino ring stars, the Omega Pro Sports International formally launched its ‘Who’s next? Pro-boxing series’ that features a new generation of warriors who will showcase their talents anchored on a common goal of becoming a world champion.

“This is just the start of a long program in which we provide venues for our young boxers to improve their talents and at the same time be a catalyst for change in the local boxing scene,” said Omega Pro Sports President Pio Paulo Castillo in a press conference yesterday at the atrium of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

“We want to put qualify fights but what set us aside is that we will promise fair results in every fight,” he added.

Chad Cañares, Omega Pro Sports International vice president, said they are preparing six professional fightcards for this year that will be bannered by Omega Boxing Gym’s rising prospects.

“Our first card will be on March 6 here at Robinsons Galleria and it will be headlined by the undefeated Jhack Tepora, who will fight for the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific super bantamweight title,” said Cañares.

Aside from Tepora (16-0, 11KOs), the other pugs who will see action in the ‘Who’s next?’ boxing series are WBF Asia-Pacific bantamweight title-holder Kenny Demecillo (10-3, 7KOs), PBF flyweight king Virgilio Silvano (20-6, 12KOs), Jerry Castroverde (7-2, 4KOs), Jimboy Haya (8-2, 5KOs), Jared Jahleel Payao (12-1, 7KOs) and Allan Villanueva (3-0, 3KOs).

Omega Boxing Gym pugs will face Pinoy and Asian opponents within the series and they will also fight for regional titles.

Aside from giving their fighters the much-needed exposure, Castillo said they are also hiring professional conditioning coaches and physicians to help develop their boxers.

Also working hand in hand with International Pharmaceuticals Inc. (IPI) in this boxing series are Hyundai Philippines and Harley Davidson.  (FREEMAN)
