Villareal leads winners’ cast in maiden CitiGreen netfest

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines- Shynne Villareal of Bright Academy came up with a double victory to banner the list of winners in the inaugural CitiGreen Junior Tennis Cup, which ended yesterday at CitiGreen Tennis Resort in Barangay Punta Princesa, this city.

Interestingly, Villareal bagged both the girls 16 and 18 titles after winning by default over fellow Cebuana netter Zethley Mae Alferez.

In the girls 16 final, Alferez automatically lost by forfeiture after coming into the game beyond the grace period. Because of the unfavorable turn of events,  Alferez decided not to play in the girls 18 anymore.

Carcar's Elizabeth Abarquez, on the other hand, grabbed the girls 14 crown after edging out University of the Visayas' Pherl Bless Coderos,10-4, while Naga's Lyra Mae Repollo overpowered Lapu-Lapu's Tiffany Nocos, 10-4, in the boys side.

Nocos though claimed  the unisex 10-under crown with a hard-earned 4-0, 5-4 victory over John Christopher Sonsona of Lanao del Norte.

John Clyde Laquio, also of Naga City, topped the boys 18 class after whipping Norman Joseph Enriquez, 10-5, while Asturias' Garabiel Trazo dumped Cagayan de Oro's Justin Yepis, 10-2, to lord it over in the boys 12 category.

Clyde Mari Casino, however, had something good for the visiting CDO bets after he bested Jyle Martinez of Digos, Davao del Sur, 10-5, to reign supreme in the boys 16 class. Martinez did not go home empty-handed though as he nailed the boys 13 title following a masterful 10-2 demolition of Minglanilla's Jace Unto.  (FREEMAN)
