Silvano topbills Dalaguete slugfest tonight
CEBU, Philippines – One-time world title challenger Vergillio ‘Maton’ Silvano (19-4, 11KOs) continues his quest to earn a shot at a more prestigious title as he defends his Philippine Boxing Federation flyweight belt against Ryan Tampus (11-12, 8KOs) in the main event of ‘Bakbakan sa Dalaguete-Fists of Fury’ tonight at the Dalaguete Sports Complex.
More than retaining his PBF crown, the match is of huge importance to Silvano because if victorious, he would get a chance to once again fight for a regional title this year.
The 24-year-old Silvano once held the WBO Oriental light flyweight crown that paved way for him to challenge for the IBF minimumweight championship.
However, the pride of Dalaguete lost by unanimous decision to Japanese champion Katsunari Takayama on December 3, 2013.
“I have learned so much from my experiences especially in fighting for the world title. This time, I am smarter and stronger and I am willing to take a long process for me to go to that stage again,” said Silvano.
In the supporting main event, Junie Salugaol (6-7,6KOs) of Big Yellow Stable will try to retain his PBF bantamweight belt against Jelo Merlin (13-21,2KOs) of Iloilo City.
On the other hand, undefeated super bantamweight contender Jhack ‘Golden Boy’ Tepora (12-0, 8KOs) will face the biggest test in his career as he battles former PABA champion and veteran Marvin ‘Bato’ Tampus (27-19, 18KOs).
