Pulpogan, Garing grab 3rd place trophies in Consolacion hoopla

CEBU, Philippines - Barangays Pulpogan and Garing bested their respective  rivals to claim third place trophies in the 2014 Mayor Teresa 'Nene' P. Alegado Fiesta Basketball League at Tayud gym in Consolacion, Cebu.

Twin brothers Russel and Rezzan Moneva erupted with 41 points combined as Pulogan came from behind to turn back Nangka and snare the third place honors in the Inter-Barangay Category A.

Russel Moneva unloaded 12 of his 21 points in the final quarter where Pulpogan unleashed a devastating rally to turn the tables on Nangka.

Pulpogan trailed by 11 points after three quarters, 56-67, but detonated a 30-14 bomb in the windup to blow away Nangka at the final buzzer.

In the SK division, Garing upended Pulpogan, 79-74, to lift the third place trophy.

Garing actually had a lukewarm start resulting into a seven-point deficit in the early goings, 12-19, but bounced back with aplomb in the second quarter to grab the lead at halftime, 32-29.

Garing again was down by 12 points at the end of the third canto, 47-59, but managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat using a 32-15 blitz at the endgame.

The month-long tournament, which is among the highlights of Consolacion's annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Narciso, is supported by Mayor Teresa P. Alegado, Vice Mayor Rey Damole and the rest of the Sangguniang Bayan members. Councilor Nilo Ferraren is the sports committee chairman assisted by Boy Tibon and Association of Barangay Council President Marilou P. Casul.

The games are supervised by sports commssioner Paul Alelu Q. Flores, a former varsity of the Far Eastern University during his collegiate days.
