Polog forces KO match; Casili into SK finals of Consolacion hoopla
CEBU, Philippines – Barangay Polog stunned the twice-to-beat Lanipga in dominating fashion, 73-56, to forge a knockout match in the Inter-Barangay Category B championship of the Mayor Teresa P. Alegado Cup 2014 Fiesta Basketball League at Tayud gym.
So explosive the Polog cagers were that they never gave Lanipga any chance to wrest the lead after they coasted to a 20-12 start. Lanipga pulled within just a hairline, 50-51, but Polo closed the match with a 22-6 bang to come up with a 17-point romp.
In the SK division, Casili hammered out a 66-56 win over Pulpogan to advance into the best-of-three finals series against either Jugan or Garing.
Casili waxed hot early to take a 22-13 edge, but lost its composure in the second canto, allowing Pulpogan to grab the uppperhand at the break, 36-32.
Casili, however, bounced back with aplomb in the third quarter to grab the lead back for good, 51-47. Casili sustained its momentum in the closing minutes to eventually hand Pulpogan its exit slip.
The month-long tournament, which is among the highlights of Consolacion's annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Narciso, is highly supported by Mayor Teresa P. Alegado, Vice Mayor Rey Damole and the rest of the Sanggunian Bayan members. Councilor Nilo Ferraren is the sports committee chairman assisted by Boy Tibon and Association of Barangay Council President Marilou P. Casul.
The games are supervised by sports commssioner Paul Alelu Q. Flores, a former varsity of the Far Eastern University during his collegiate days.
