Surging USC Warriors take on UC Webmasters in CESAFI tilt

Gabby G. Malagar - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines- The University of San Carlos Warriors shoot for their third straight win when they take on the skidding University of Cebu Webmasters in the lone collegiate match of the 14th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. men's basketball tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.

In the juniors division, a battle royale looms ahead as the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers and the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu  Magis Eagles figure in an exciting battle of undefeated teams. The Baby Lancers are unscathed in three games, while the Magis Eagles tote a 2-0 card.

The 2-1 Warriors were shaken a bit in their 72-62 hacking of the stubborn Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats last Sunday, but thanks to the endgame heroics of pointguard Kiefer Lim, whose five-point swing bailed them out of danger.

By this time, the Warriors already knew that they need to win against the Webmasters, one of the only two teams without a foreign cager, and that is by making the most from their reliable African recruits in Shooter Olago and Espoir Toyambi.

While the Warriors are on a shot streak, the Webmasters are on a slump, losing two straight matches after their 100-96 conquest of the University of San Jose-Recoletos  Jaguars in the August 2 season-opener.

And without a foreign reinforcement to turn to, the Webmasters surely face a tall order against the vastly-improved Warriors. (FREEMAN)
