City Hall to enroll job order personnel with Pagibig Fund

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Government will start enrolling its job order employees to the Home Mutual Development Fund (Pagibig Fund) in response to the call of the latter to allow these people to enjoy the benefits that is enjoyed by its other members.

The city is just about to enter a Memorandum of Understanding with Pagibig Fund where they will agree to deduct two percent of the employees’ monthly wage which should not be lesser than P200.

The city government will be directly remitting the contribution of the JOs to Pagibig.

HMDF encourages Local Government Units to enroll even their temporary employees to allow them to enjoy the benefits that the government providence fund agency offers like Multipurpose loans and housing loans, among others.

It is also in compliance with Republic Act 9679 mandating even self-employed individuals regardless of trade, business or occupation as long as they earn at least P1000 a month and not over 60 years old to be Pagibig members.

Job order employees fall under the self-employed member classification because they do not have employer-employee relationship with the LGUs since they are project based employees.

Job order employees are hired only as they are needed. They are different from casual employees who have contract for a specific period of time, usually six months.

Rio Teves, Pagibig Fund Cebu City branch manager, said in a letter to Mayor Michael Rama, that they have conducted series of orientations with the JOs and they have received positive feedback.

Currently, the city government has 532 job order personnel hired from June 1 to December 31 this year assigned in various offices and departments of Cebu City.

The JOs do not have to remit their contribution themselves to the Pagibig office because the city agrees to do it.

Pagibig clarified that the members may contribute more than the required amount if they wish to. – (FREEMAN)
