Brgy tanod killed over stolen chicks

-

An argument over lost chicks led to the death of a barangay tanod who was stabbed and then shot in sitio Baybayan, barangay Talaga, Argao town yesterday morning.

The victim was identified as Michael Carcasona, 36, a barangay tanod of Talaga, while the suspect who was immediately collared by the Argao police was 19-year-old Roldan Lastimosa.

SPO1 Arnold Abener said the incident happened at 7:30 a.m. when Carcasona and Lastimosa were going to the barangay hall to settle their conflict over the lost chicks.

The suspect had accused Carcasona of taking his chicks last Wednesday and Talaga barangay captain Florentino Ortega summoned them both to settle the issue.

So yesterday morning, Carcasona and his wife and Lastimosa and his mother went to the barangay hall together. But while they were on their way, Carcasona and Lastimosa continued to argue over the lost chicks and then proceeded to fight over old grudges.

In time, the argument had been joined by Carcasona’s wife and Lastimosa’s mother.  The victim tried to pacify the fight between the two women but the suspect’s mother pulled the hair of the victim.

“Ang inahan ni Roldan nilabnot man dayon sa buhok ni Michael unya dali pud dayon ang suspetsado nilaban sa iyang inahan unya gidunggab ang biktima,” Abener said.

As the victim fell to the ground, the suspect saw Carcasona had a revolver and pulled it out and allegedly shot the victim five times, hitting him in the head, arms and chest.

“Naangol usab ang asawa sa biktima apan nakadagan. Gisuwayan og pusil ni Roldan ang asawa ni Michael apan nahutdan man sa bala,” Abener said.

The operatives of Argao police immediately responded to the incident and arrested the suspect inside his house.

Murder and frustrated charges are set to be filed against the suspect soon.  Garry B. Lao/BRP
