Lapu-Lapu, Bohol manifest support for Arroyo

- Jose P. Sollano, Wenna Berondo, Jasmin Uy -
The Lapu-Lapu City council has passed a resolution giving unconditional support to President Arroyo and her agenda on economic and political reforms for the stability of the country.

The resolution was approved by the city council in mass motion during last Thursday's special session called by Mayor Arturo Radaza.

Meanwhile, the Association of Regional Executives of National Agencies in Region-7 as well as its counterpart aggrupations belonging to the executive department nationwide has issued a statement expressing their support to Arroyo.

In a board resolution unanimously passed by the body, the ARENA-7 statement expressed their equivocal support to the duly constituted authorities so to preserve democracy and economic stability.

Speaking on behalf of a hundred heads of offices in Central Visayas, ARENA-7 President Eduardo Lecciones said that the association is for the sustained prompt and efficient delivery of services and is against the disruption of governance.

"ARENA-7 calls for national unity and sobriety in the face of the present crises and for that we will throw our support to the president," he said.

Meanwhile, BARUG! Pilipino executive director Fr. Carmelo Diola refused to take their stand on the issue saying that their official statement will only be based on the stand of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines that will officially be announced on July 5.

CBCP has kept mum on the issue but will present their official stand on Tuesday, a church official said earlier.

In Tagbilaran City, Bohol, the Regional Development Council expressed its full support for Arroyo and urged her to stay in the presidential seat until she finishes her term.

During the RDC's full council meeting held in Tagbilaran City yesterday, council members approved in mass motion the resolution of Bohol governor and former RDC-7 head Erico Aumentado.

Aumentado said that the country is at the threshold of economic problems and there is no better way to solve than to throw in their support for Arroyo.

"We support her program of governance, which means the RDC-7 wants her to stay until 2010 for her to finish her term as mandated by the constitution. The president is the duly elected chief executive of the republic in accordance with the result of the last elections. Until proven otherwise that she was not duly elected president, it should be respected," the Bohol governor said.

He added no president in the country has given so much assistance and projects to Region 7 than Arroyo did.

Right after the council approved the resolution, Aumentado received a phone call from Arroyo who expressed gratitude for the support of council.

"Ang atong Presidente nalipay sa suporta sa Central Visayas kaniya ilabi na sa ato resolution karon. She promised that her programs for the country, especially for the poor will continue with vigor and strength," he said.
