No order to give Dumpit money

- Ryan P. Borinaga -
Acting city police director Melvin Gayotin yesterday denied rumors that there is an order for the members of the city police to contribute P1,000 each as financial assistance to suspended policemen Adonis Dumpit.

Gayotin laughed off the rumors saying it cannot be possible because if that were the case Dumpit would instantly become a millionaire as there are close to 1,000 policemen in the city.

But he admitted there is a memorandum asking for voluntary contributions as financial assistance to Dumpit.

"Voluntary ra man na siya. Dili ako maoy nag-initiate ana, but si Natuel kay iyaha man nang tawo. Nisugot ko kay there is nothing wrong with it. Maluoy man sad ta ni Dumpit kay kalit-kalit iyang suspension, wala na siya'y sweldo. Maayo ganig moabot og 30 percent ang mohatag, kahibawo naka," Gayotin said.

Dumpit, before his suspension, was directly under Supt. Mariano Natuel who heads the Security and Service Group, but was detailed as close-in bodyguard of Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

Last June 16, Dumpit was suspended by the Ombudsman for the Military for grave misconduct in relation to a frustrated murder case filed against him by Wilson Borja and Rolando Mejarito last August.

The two said Dumpit shot them in the waterfront area just two hours after Dumpit was implicated in the fatal shooting of jeepney driver Federico Tabon.

Dumpit said the complainants were only imagining things when they accused him because he was already sleeping at his house when the incident happened.

Suspended for a year, Dumpit was ordered to surrender his badge and issued firearms just two days after he took part in the successful arrest of notorious robber Ruel Rey Torres in Mindanao.
